about

'Escape from Never Never Land' is the final studio album in Shawn Lov's music catalogue. Not available digitally until now, 2000 Hard copies with gorgeous full-color artwork by J. Axer are in existence and can be obtained with moderate perseverance.

This retirement album references Shawn’s underground classic LP “Never Never Land” which was released in 2000 during Shawn’s early 20’s, to critical acclaim and intense internet popularity during the rise of MP3.com. Almost 20 years later, this once battle rapper who has been heavily influenced by the Five Percent Nation, draws subject matter from experience working as an inner-city teacher, moving to the West Coast to start a successful company after a lifetime in New Jersey, and now raising his own children and moving into middle-age. Shawn brings forth a project which touches on sensitive topics in brave, new and introspective ways. Whether he’s spitting a message to his adult daughter (age 2 during recording) over an instrumental his father played in 1972, evaluating the current state of race relations, or analyzing past mistakes and what it might take to be a better man, the record bleeds sincerity- for better or worse. Shawn recorded this piece as a goodbye to long term listeners and a beacon of welcome to new ones who haven’t experienced his hefty catalogue.

The production is lead by Raiden (Metal Gear Rising) and Shawn himself (Metal Gear Solid.) The album also benefits from the sounds of The Custodian of Records (Burton Music, Less Work) who has contributed to most of Shawn Lov’s releases since 2000. Other guests include The MASSIVE, and New Jersey spitters such as long time collaborator Pace Won (Outsidaz), Cause and Knowledge, Fatboi Sharif, KwyitStorm, and Sol Zalez. With international contributors Melph, ill Proceeja, and Psix.

Whether you’re a new listener, poised to adventure through the catalogue of this unsung New Jersey lyrical great, or a lifetime fan, Escape from Never Never Land is an album that will be loved by any Hip-Hop purist who longs for the rich, soulful, and reflective style of rap music which has escaped the culture in contemporary times.
